Mylo Interview

8th Mar 2010

So Mylo, what have you been up to recently?

I was kidnapped by Colombian FARC rebels and held in the jungle for a couple of years.

How is 2010 shaping up for you? Any big performances planned for the summer?

There are a couple of things coming in. I had to cancel a gig in Istanbul a few years ago due to a lost passport. At the time I offered to go back for free anytime to make it up to them. They've finally called me on it so I suppose I'll be going there anyway.

Do you think your style of music has changed since ‘Destroy Rock & Roll’?

I knew absolutely nothing about music then which was a great advantage.

After the success of ‘Destroy Rock & Roll’ do you feel a certain amount of pressure for what the music industry now expects from you?

I'm sure that's true. But it's been so long that now it's almost like starting again from scratch, which is a good place to be.

Who are your favourite acts of the moment?

Danger and Siriusmo. I like Rebollero as well, the video for 'Guerrero' is amazing!

What current track would you most like to remix?

Stylo by Gorillaz for obvious reasons.

You’ve lived in many differing parts of the world such as Scotland and LA – where is your favourite and for what reason?

Glasgow for the people or France for the booze. Booze is also available in Glasgow I hear.

After studying at Oxford University, what made you pursue a career in the music industry?

I think I got sick of not really having a plan. I bought 'Darkdancer' by Les Rhythmes Digitales in 1999 and I thought 'OK'.

Who would you say inspires you the most musically?

Coffee.

Finally, what does headlining the launch night of ‘Together’ mean to you?

I had a couple of great Together nights at Turnmills including a New Year's Eve. I've never been to the Coronet before but I lived at Elephant and Castle about ten years ago during a very heavy Steely Dan period of my life... so it's going to be a weird set I'm afraid.I
