Lack of Afro Release new Single 24/03
14th Mar 2008
The track
features a vocal from Steve Marriott and was played on Colin Murray's Radio 1 show last night and has already
been played by Shaun Keaveny's BBC6 Breakfast Show, Nemone's
Lunchtime Show, Tom Robinson and Chris Hawkins BBC 6 Shows
Based in
Exeter, Lack of Afro, or Adam Gibbons as he's known to his doctor, is a talented
multi-instrumentalist raised and fed on nothing but the finest
funk.
Already
being touted as “the next Quantic” we’re sure you’ll agree that this young and
talented producer has carved a new niche for himself. With the charm and
musicality of funk pioneers such as The Meters, James Brown and Jimmy Smith, but
with a contemporary twist, we’re sure this will find favour with fans of artists
such as DJ Shadow, Cut Chemist, The Breakestra, Quantic Soul Orchestra and Mark
Ronson.
Having
posted a few tracks onto a friend’s website in 2006, word soon spread to the
Freestyle offices, where he was instantly snapped up. His debut
album, “Press On” is a wide spanning soundscape, documenting funk, hip hop,
soul, psych and jazz – as much at home on your iPod as it is on the dancefloor
and reminiscent of something DJ Shadow might have made if he wasn’t trying to
break MTV. It went on to fill the
playlists of open minded DJs across the globe and appeared on lots of end of year top 10’s, as well as
landing Lack Of Afro a session on Mark Lamarr’s Radio 2 show ‘God’s
Jukebox’ and gigs across the country.
Lack of Afro have also been selected for the Band Aid feature on BBC6’s Shaun Keaveny Show
Following
a busy schedule remixing a plethora of artists such as Nicole Willis, The New
Mastersounds, Diesler and Eddie Roberts, Adam will soon embark on his next album
project, but in the meantime we thought it would be nice to spread the word
further by giving a full single release to one of the most requested tracks from
the album; “Touch My Soul”.
This
track is a unique and heartfelt outing, featuring the instantly recognizable
vocals of Steve Marriott on top of one of the catchiest tunes you’ll hear all
year. Made up of a number of
layered samples alongside Adam’s own deft playing, the track opens with Steve
Marriott’s vocals from the opening phrases of The Small Faces “Afterglow (Of Your
Love)” from their “Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake” UK number 1 album and true 60’s
classic, alongside “Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band” and “Pet
Sounds”.
Our
tribute to the iconic artwork of “Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake” on this single will
hopefully make you smile whether you remember the original version from back in
the day or from discovering it in your dad’s record
collection!
As an
added bonus, we’ve also included 2 extra tracks – the heavy funk dancefloor bomb
“The Outsider” and the full un-edited version of “Touch My Soul”.
