Jaimie Fanatic Interview
24th Nov 2009
Hi Jaimie, how are you today and where do we find you?
Hi guys, I'm doing excellent and it seems I am flying a lot to the UK and France, Belgium right now.. really enjoying that!
Tell us a little bit about Jaimie Fanatic! and your sound?
Well I got into music doing hip hop when I was really young, nothing too seriously tho. At some point I started DJing techno but that was really boring to me.. nothing but loops and with my hip hop background I really wanted to have that party element in my music. Thats when I switched to house music. This transition is actually something you might hear in my music. I play a bit tougher, louder than other djs, a bit more influenced by hip hop and definitely all about partying. Lots of variety in my sets and productions and always aiming for 'hands in the air' time.
We last saw you almost exactly a year ago at Purrfect. What have you been up to since? and what can we expect this time round?
I've been releasing on DIM MAK, Mad Decent, Southern Fried rec and Cheaper Thrills since than. Done some big remixes like the Gossip etc. Just evolving I guess and having fun. Today I play a bit more techier, a bit more synths and techy beats. Lots of fun tho ;)
You just recently hooked up with the Mad Decent crew, how did this come about?
Well I did this track called "whats happening to ya" and diplo picked it up.. blogged it, released it and the rest is history. I have been getting major support from them and consider them my family. Same with Dim Mak.. Diplo hooked me up with them and ever since I'm close with them quiet well.
What DJs/artists are you loving at the minute and who is your top tip for 2010?
Definitely into the Boys Noize crew, loving Vitalic, Djedjotronic, Felix Cartal.. young kids actually doing great stuff. Although I dont think Vitalic is young haha
Whats the next step for Jaimie Fanatic?
Working on my album.. a really broad album, from hip house to banging techno tracks. Taking my time to do it because I have so many interests musicwise that it's hard to stick to one sound.. which will make the album a lot more intersting to tho.
Any guilty pleasures?
I'm actually considering to stop drinking!! Doing multiple countries in a weekend really makes it hard to recover.. and i'm getting older so.. less guilty pleasure actually haha
You travel a lot – it must be amazing, and yet it must be tiring, how do you entertain yourself?
Thats easy... i'm single ;)
Who were your influences growing up?
Laurent Garnier must be the biggest influence on me ever.. I love his theatrical way of doing music.. djing and producing.. really amazing.. thats why I love vitalic etc.. but lets not forget grandmaster flash, slick rick, ll cool j, stevie wonder etc. thats my roots!
Any advice for upcoming DJ/producers?
Stay true to yourself and mostly just have fun! Music is emotion, if you have fun doing what you do, you will win the hearts of your crowd.
