Hot property in the worlds of fashion and music, DJ and model Scarlett Etienne is a fast rising star of the UK dance scene. Jack Oughton pins down this diva of the decks for a quick chat about… well, everything really.

Born into a US military family in Hong Kong, nobody could have foreseen how far little Scarlett would go. Evidence of her musical abilities showed after a few years, when she demonstrated a prodigal talent at piano playing. This talent would be nurtured in the years to come with a musical career that is as varied and unusual as it is exciting.

Today her talents are still evolving. Scarlett is known best as an internationally admired DJ, who has been resident in some of the world's hottest clubs, including Club Midi in Romania and Likuid Club in Hong Kong. Asides from her hectic schedule on the decks, Scarlett moonlights as a synth pop singer songwriter, and as a techno producer with production duo Audiofly.

In 2010 she started her own label, Starlett Records, and now works with software giants Native Instruments and Pioneer Pro DJ to integrate the latest music technology into her epic live shows.

With her ambition strong as ever and her star still rising, the future is bright for Scarlett. What will she do next?

If you could be any video game character, who would you be and why?

My World of Warcraft character, Quintessa. She's a Night Elf Death Knight. She's got great knockers.

What’s your favorite pizza topping?

Whatever the signature topping is at Firezza in London. The stuff of which dreams are made, I tell you!

Best gig you've ever done? Why?

"YES!" at Watergate Berlin, Germany and Club Midi in Cluj, Romania always spring to mind. Wonderful people and great soundsystems. I feel at home in these places, and I can always play whatever I want.

What genre of music do you really dislike?

I could probably find something good in any piece of music.

What three things could you not do without?

Stilettos, music, and lip gloss.

What do you find desirable in a man?

Class.

What's your ultimate goal for your musical career?

For my music to deeply touch as many people as possible.

If you were a musical instrument what would you be? And why?

I play the piano, and I have really connected with my Yamaha u3. We have a very special relationship and I identify with her. I could be a piano.

What have you got spinning in your DVD player lately?

At this very moment, I have "Coco Chanel + Igor Stravinski" in my DVD drive. It's in French. It's not such a great film, but the sex scenes and interior decoration were very good.

What/who inspires you musically?

Flood (the producer), and for the moment Gesaffelstein.

What's your secret talent?

None of your business ;)

Got any phobias?

Fear of fear.

If you could have a fistfight with any character, living or dead/fictional or real, who would you fight?

Sarah Palin, because she's a complete asshole.

You work in both the fashion world and the music universe. Any over lap?

Of course. Two intertwined channels of artistic expression that coexist beautifully.
