Illuminaughty - Dance or Die

With Colour, Comedy and Chaos at the core of their crusade, illumiNaughty’s been bombarding the UK with high energy carnival driven mayhem since March 2006. From baby steps at The Zoo the crew have matured to a full-on sonic stampede where pounding psy-trance, crunching metal, razor sharp electro, feel good cabaret and pure bouncy breaks, bleeps and beats exist blissfully side by side!!

Residing predominantly in Manchester (though scattered cross-continent) the crew boasts a huge cross-section of voluntary nut cases who alongside top quality local and international talent share a common goal: to make theatrical club event, remain unparalleled in the hearts and minds for years to come.

The illumiNaughty community itself is a refreshingly strange cocktail of madheads young and old of all ages, tastes and musical persuasions. Defying not only years of clubbing convention but brewing an open minded, wide-eyed atmosphere and foot-stomping hilarious hootenanny to boot! illumiNaughty’s a haven for appreciators of both the beautiful and bizarre and those who get lost in the beat (stopping only to ponder a live stage show or to let a stilt walking Wizard walk pass….).

illumiNaughty transforms venues into psychedelic playgrounds that are both over-whelming and interactive. Clubbers run riot in fantasy worlds of art, installations, dancers, drummers and other such optical glee. Constantly exploring the concept of Digital Drama illumiNaughty also acts as a platform for musicians, visual manipulators, inventors and artisans of all breeds to showcase their work.

Anyone with a fresh idea or urge to create is welcomed into the fold and as each idea takes up to 6 months of creative development before each show as it involves a lot of head scratching, dream-scaping and plan plotting. This Goblin Gang do not have magic wands but create magical wonders armed with hammers, nails, tool boxes full determination and sly glints in their eyes. Kindling a theatrical blaze from any microscopic imagining is what they do best and they work hard to make each ‘Chapter’ distinct from its predecessors.

Circus, theatre, festival, club night and installation space, this many-sided shape-shifting spectacle is chaotic, exotic and happily neurotic campaigning that ‘sometimes the only way to deal with reality is to go insane’. Painted performers stalk the stage and hallways, jesters and jugglers converse on the stairs, fairy cakes laugh with lunatics and Goblins break-dance with Gorillas. Such are the sights during your average illumiNaughty stay, a most peculiarly pleasurable place indeed….
