'...twangy and sharp guitar riffs backing him, this song is a real catchy affair. There's a nervous energy about the song too that transcends Meling's wanderlust' : Entertinment Focus
Glenn Meling…”I remember as a child how I loved music. It was an amazing treasure, a bottomless well – and I took it all in without prejudices. I used to sing and make songs while playing drums with my mother’s knitting needles. “
A free spirit travelling the world, Glenn has spent his life moving from town to town, forming and breaking up bands. He has yet to live for more than a year in the same place in his entire life. After another abandoned music project Glenn decided to move as far away as possible from his native Norway. He left the shores of his hometown and went to study media in Melbourne, Australia. He started song writing again and performed to ever increasing crowds at university open mic nights but he longed to be back to Europe, so he returned to Norway but this time to Oslo.
The free spirit quickly developed wanderlust again both creatively and spiritually, he wanted to discover the creativity of London and finally record that elusive album but with no money he had to commute hundreds of miles to keep jobs and keep the album on track. As Glenn himself explains …
“I stayed in tiny little room in West Ealing for sometime but had to go back to Norway quite regularly to work in order to save up some money to pay for my recording sessions and musicians. I did that until there was pretty much no money left, I then moved to a friend in Hull whilst continuing to go back to Norway for my courier job, driving up and down the country sleeping in the car, staying with friends and family, putting in the hours. I sensed the album was taking shape and so I wanted to finish it in style, no matter what. It is my first real album and represents a culmination of many of the important decisions I have made and the experience of living a sort of chaotic life, striving forwards like in a maze. It draws on the fact that human beings have hopes and dreams, and they do get pulverised quite often, we want things to work but we make mistakes and every action got a consequence and we get thrown around, pushed and pulled in every direction, slowly becoming something we wished we hadn’t. Still, giving up is not an option. “
Although from a culture steeped in a tradition of reason, logic, syllogisms, verifications and falsifications, Glenn is a traveller, a dreamer. Breaking moulds and providing that his Norwegian soul is a warm free of prejudices, Glenn isn’t the stereotype Scandinavian that maybe some of us envisage, instead he relies on the strength and size of his heart.
