Situated in the city's cultured quarters, Liverpool Sound City offers tonnes of new and more established music to various stages and venues splayed across its postcode.

Punters annually stream in to the popular musical jaunt, with the strong possibility of stumbling up on an artist to besiege their personal playlists for weeks on end after the occasion.

In order to make that happen and straighten out your Sound City itinerary, we've combed the wealth of artists on board and picked out five essential tracks you must take in across the weekend. Albeit we're certain you'll have heard most of them buzzing the radio airwaves already.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra 'Can't Keep Checking My Phone'

You know those people who bump into you in the street because they're too busy checking their phone? Well this song is more complex than that, although we do hate those people.

Again instilling their experimental blueprint both musically and lyrically, this funky number pushes further boundaries with its stimulating layers that sound it out as the best material yet from the collective.

Gengahr 'She's A Witch'

You've probably heard it popping up on an advert an awful lot, and as far as we're concerned, long may it continue.

This glistening piece of breezy pop is the follow up to their acclaimed debut 'Powder', offering the perfect festival tonic with its soothing vocals that have a real feel of MGMT about them.

Yak 'Smile'

It can no longer be ignored that psychedelia is on trend right now, and this steamy waltz from London based trio Yak is one of the best to emerge from that fraction.

Making up a third of their much anticipated 'Plastic People' EP, their song-writing is well beyond their youthful years and we can't wait for more of it.

Hooton Tennis Club 'Jasper'

We think a native crowd will bring the best out of rising indie ensemble Hooton Tennis Club, and their debut serving of lo-fi guitar 'Jasper' must be witnessed in the flesh.

Strewn with catchy hooks and accompanying guitar, it's indie music in its rawest form, just as we like it. (Catch our interview with them earlier on in the year).

The Bohicas 'Where You At'

Firmly justifying the hype surrounding them, this brisk cut from The Bohicas is the latest to be extracted from their incoming album To Die For.

Merging astute guitar lines, invigorating rhythms and five star hooks, they've comprehensively cracked the main stage code that'll take them there sooner rather than later.

Liverpool Sound City takes place from Friday 22nd - Sunday 24th May around Bramley Moore Dock
