Final Acts Announced for Wickerman Festival

Whilst Rockness and T in the Park may be making plans for 2010 the Scottish summer festival season is far from over. The much loved Wickerman has announced the final acts to join its strongest line-up to date.

Date published: 17th Jul 2009

Sheffield’s Party House will gallop on to the main stage on Friday the 24th July and entertain the early birds with their superb blend of Indie perky pop.

Liverpool electro outfit Wave Machines will also bring some energetic cheer to the proceedings. If shimmering synths and disco bass rocks your world then mark these guys down as a must see on the main stage billing.

Luke Leighfield is also scheduled to dispense his brand of grandiose pop to the Saturday audience. Luke headed off stiff competition to win his slot through a university organised challenge.

Sam Hird also battled his way on to the Wickerman main stage through competitive heats organised by Oxjam.

The main stage may be the jewel in the Wickermans willowy crown but the adrenaline fuelled Scooter Tent also draws a big crowd.

Joining the likes of Bad Manners and the UK Subs are The Hostiles. Hailing from Ayr and Glasgow these Scottish ska stars are the musical equivalent of an energy drink.

A more laid-back vibe will prevail in the Ingrid Pit Spoken Word Stage. Pottery, comedy and the occasional musical act will entertain the more discerning crowd. Robert Cassani, Vladimir McTavish and Ash Dickinson are just some of the gems to be found on this stage.

Music aside the real star of Southern Scotland’s greatest festival is the Wickerman himself. Taller than previous incarnations this 40 foot giant has been woven into a representation of Rabbie Burns. This nod to Scottish Homecoming will thrill the audience when it is torched at midnight on Saturday 25th July.

The Human League, The Zutons, The Magic Numbers, Candi Staton and Utah Saints are some of the musical highlights of the weekend gathering which encourages families, friendships and frolics.

Situated in the rolling hills which stalk the Solway Coast the Wickerman feels more like an action packed short holiday than a simple two day gig.
