Dub Police at Fabric, London on the 26th of June!

15th Jun 2009

If there’s one artist that embodies the progression and expansion of dubstep, it’s the incredibly prolific Caspa. His debut album ‘Everybody’s Talking, Nobody’s Listening’ has become a vibrant manifesto for the genre – a landmark statement of the growth of an artist, a testament to Caspa’s ability to blend hard-hitting, gut-churning rawness, with sublime beauty and elegant subtlety – giving a nod to the past as much as looking forward to the future. His DJ sets are broad and inclusive – incorporating elements from across the scene with a peerless talent for seamless mixes.

Another festival of low-end frequencies, this time Caspa has pulled together a scorching lineup that sees wall-to-wall big hitters in the main room, with the Dub Police boss himself taking the headline slot alongside an enticing back to back from one of dubstep’s founding fathers Hatcha and one of the scene’s true heavyweights N-Type. N-Type has recently launched his brand new label Wheel&Deal Records, so expect a bag full of freshly cut plates to be laid out on the table. Distance, Planet Mu’s maverick dubstep producer, whose tunes test a big system to its very limits, will be behind the decks, as will Californian Matty G, equipped with his signature up-steppin’ West Coast basslines. D1, a producer whose catalogue remains unblemished, will be also be joining Emalkay – whose recent Dub Police 12” ‘Explicit/Heroics’, was filthy, rave-smashing dubstep at its very best. Completing the lineup will be Dub Police’s in-house one-man-wrecking-crew, Orien.

Room Two will be rumbling to drum & bass from all corners of the scene; from the synth-led jump-up business of TC to the deep, forward-thinking of Critical’s Kasra. Grooverider and Fabio will both be present and correct, as will the DJs’ favourite DJ, the incomparable DJ Randall. Steppa & Kitcha make their fabric debut – fast-rising kings of the wampwamp – as well as the vibrant sounds of Aaron Jay, who made his production bow on 31 Records this year, and whose own label Influence Records has been going from strength to strength recently with releases from Lynx amongst others on the way.

Upstairs in Room Three, the roots of dubstep will be laid bare by the legendary El-B, whose current ‘The Roots Of El-B’ compilation serves as testament to his essential chapters in the history of the sound. Hot City, an incredible artist who is looking back to look forward, will also be in the place giving our sound system a going-over with those old school jackin’ riddims and b-lines, whilst completing the line-up are a duo we’re expecting big things of, Lisbon’s Octa Push, and 2-step aficionado Mackaveli.
