Jack Daniel’s is excited to announce that Brakes will take centre stage at The Cathouse, Glasgow, on Friday 1st September. They will be fronting a new wave of JD Sets; a concept which began back in 2002. The series of intimate gigs held at one-off locations have become widely anticipated events in the music calendar. Moving forward in 2006, The JD Set takes on a new dimension by partnering with six credible music venues at locations around the UK. The gig is the second of The JD Set’s taking place over the next 12 months at The Spring & Airbrake, Belfast; Cathouse, Glasgow; The Cluny, Newcastle; Night and Day, Manchester; Junktion 7, Nottingham and Barfly, London.

Brakes is an often-jokey, garage-rock side project for British Sea Power keyboardist Eamon Hamilton, who steps to the forefront, playing guitar and handling lead vocals. Joining the indie supergroup are brothers Tom and Alex White of Electric Soft Parade and Marc Beatty of The Tenderfoot. Their debut album consists of 16 tracks with short sharp satirical themes and songs ranging from only six seconds in length. They’ve received rave reviews with NME crediting them as ‘full of fraught, frivolous fun.’ Brakes are currently in the homeland of Jack Daniel’s, Nashville, Tennessee, recording their eagerly awaited second album.

Rob da Bank, acclaimed Radio 1 DJ and curator for the one-off gigs, said: "Following the impressive line up of JD Set’s to date; Brakes seemed the perfect band to kick start the gigs taking place in Glasgow. The guys have an amazing stage presence that really gets the crowd going. Their fast growing reputation as one of the hottest bands around makes this gig one definitely not to be missed."

Until now tickets for these gigs have not been for sale but available only to competition winners and invited guests. However, this new embodiment of The JD Set means that fans will now have access to tickets on a first-come-first-served basis through the box office, as well as through competitions in the media. This progression will make the events more accessible for fans without loosing the unique and intimate essence of The JD Set. Previous JD Sets have seen Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Flaming Lips, Editors, Maximo Park and Elbow to name but a few, take to the stage. This impressive line-up to date is set to continue with the likes of The Orange Lights and I Like Trains performing over the next couple of months.
