The Bigga Bloco is the coming together of two cultural disciplines that might seem artistically opposed; one being live Bloco or Samba School drumming and the second being digital music and rapping. However, both have emerged from urban inner cities, both celebrate creativity over adversity.
Comprising of both experienced and novice musicians, the group has bonded to create a unique collaboration exploring the interaction between the digital beats of grime, R'n'B and funky house with the Bloco traditions of Brazil.
Bigga Bloco has worked with young Londoners from the Tower Hamlets area who have produced both dance performances by working with professional dance mentors.
The first burst of carnival samba drummers will be making an appearance at one of London's biggest underground club tents at this year's Lovebox on the Saturday, details are hush hush at the moment and shall remain a secret until on the day. They will also be playing at the Jose Curvo stage on Sunday.
Lovebox has quickly established itself as a London institution. It's an annual event where music and hedonism mix with a passion for carnival, art, food and drink.
Later in the month Bigga Bloco partner up with Underage Festival - the world's first under 19's festival which takes place on the 2nd August. Now in its second year, Underage festival was originally conceived by a young promoter who started putting on club nights in the Elephant and Castle area of London after being refused entry into a gig for being too young. The festival continues to go from strength to strength.
'Young London: Into Music' is a key strand of CREATE09 - the multi-genre, multi-event festival of culture that will be celebrating a wealth of music and art in all its glory in the Olympic and Paralympic Host Boroughs between 22nd June and 2nd August 2009.
