B12 Records Archive Released

29th Sep 2008

Seventeen years ago in a room above a London pub a group of unknown musicians were gathered together following a series of obscure phone calls from a fledgling record label that wanted to release a series of albums that would change the world of electronic music forever. That record label was Warp Records and the series was Artificial Intelligence.

Mike Golding and Steve Rutter (B12), owners of B12 Records, were in that pub on that fateful day, a day which saw the birth of a movement that has shaped electronic music history. Since that meeting the duo’s releases for Warp’s Artificial Intelligence series have subsequently become seminal defining electronic moments, influencing multiple generations of music lovers to think differently about the sounds that enter their ears.

But what were the origins of the music?

Warp only dipped into some of the B12 Records back catalogue archives, the label had already released several EPs before that fateful East End Pub meeting, each so ground breaking that the ears of the world had already decided they must be from Detroit. It was the quality and clarity of those releases that Warp wanted, a quality and clarity that defined “Electro Soma”. Those EPs have become stuff of legend, changing hands for vast quantities of money by those who could manage to track down one of the exceptionally limited number of vinyl copies that were pressed.

Now the Archive is open.

Today the entire B12 Records Archive has been opened. Everybody has the chance to delve into the origins of “Electro Soma” the fuel for “Time Tourist” the building blocks that shaped and contributed to those seminal B12 Albums.

The 98 track “Archive” series includes every track released on B12 Records between 1990 and 2007. Every ultra rare vinyl EP and Limited CD bonus track is gathered into a series of Double CD’s, for the first time.

The tracks that shaped techno history have been fully digitally re-mastered from the original master tapes which were painstakingly tracked down and dusted off.

And there is MORE.

And if owning a re-mastered slice of Techno history is not enough, The B12 Records Archive Volume 1-7 contains…27 PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED BONUS TRACKS from B12, recorded at the infamous Epicentre Studios almost 20 years ago, during the same golden period of UK techno perfection, that have never been heard before.
