Audiojack: The further north you go, the crazier the crowds get

Ramm presents storms into the Bank Holiday weekend on August 24th with a ridiculous line up of underground stars in tow, all taking to the Vox Warehouse for a night filled with the finest in house, bass and techno.

One of the headliners set to touchdown in Leeds is Ibiza based duo Audiojack. Since the mid noughties, Richard Burkinshaw and James Rial have been plying the underground with their hugely varied releases covering tough no nonsense techno right through to melodic, groove heavy house (stream their latest edition of 'In The Gruuv' below).

We catch up with the Gruuv Records bosses to find out more about what they have in store for the return to their hometown, balancing their hectic life style and of course, Ibiza.

You’re set to play RAMM in Leeds later this month, do you have a special connection with the city?

We actually moved to Leeds when we were in our early twenties but we had the best decade of our lives there, many of our friends still live in the city, so its always ace to come back.

How do the crowds in Leeds compare to the rest of the country?

The general rule is the further north you go the crazier the crowds! Leeds has always had an amazingly up for it crowd though.

You made the move to Ibiza earlier on in the year, tell us what you’ve been up to on the White Isle over summer...

We moved here mainly for the lifestyle so we’ve been mostly enjoying that; good food, drinks, friends, sunsets etc, and of course going out now and then. We’ve played for Carl Cox at Space a couple of times and for Suara at Booom too.

You’ve just remixed King of Tomorrow’s Flutez for 2020 Vision, how did that come about?

We weren't planning to do any more remixes over the summer but Ralph said Sandy Rivera (Kings of Tomorrow) had asked for us personally and knowing the track already it was one of those offers that’s too good to refuse!

Can we expect more new material from you guys this year?

Yes, loads! We've got a not so helpful habit of switching styles every 6-12 months. From techno to house and back about 10 times over the last decade so it’s sometimes difficult for people to place us musically. However living in Ibiza has really inspired us to get back to our techno and tech house routes and we've got lots of ideas flowing.

Remixes coming soon on Suara (for Edu Imbernon), Moon Harbour (for Luna City Express), Defected (Stay Glued re-release with a new remix from us plus Sebo K and Zombie Disco Squad) and of course Flutez on 2020Vision. After we’ve tied these up we’ll be focusing on new original EPs.

How do you manage juggling producing, gigging and running your label Gruuv without things getting too crazy?

Wouldn't life be boring if things didn't get a bit crazy from time to time!? Having come from working class stock we’re not going to sit here and tell you how hard life is, if we could have picked any jobs in the world we’d have picked these three.

We don’t really consider them as jobs though, they’re just stuff we love doing that we’re lucky enough to be able to live through.

And finally, hypothetical question... You have the power to throw the ultimate rave. You can play alongside any DJ from the past or present. Where would you have it, who would be on the bill, and what track would you play to define the evening?

Given the chance to bring people back from the dead its impossible to choose anyone alive! Larry Levan and Frankie Knuckles all night on a zero gravity glass spaceship orbiting earth would be something.

Difficult to get away from the set list clichés! Probably George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic: Mothership Connection to start, then something by Bowie to close... 'Life on Mars' or 'Space Oddity' or something!

You can see Audiojack doing their thing when they hit Ramm alongside Claude VonStroke, Josh Butler and more on August 24th. Grab your Ramm tickets here.
