6th May 2008
People wondering what's on in London in June will be interested to note that a host of massive musical acts have been confirmed for Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday celebration. As part of the party, the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate will preside over a concert in London's Hyde Part which will see the likes of Queen, Annie Lennox, Simple Minds, Leona Lewis, the Sugababes, Dame Shirley Bassey, Razorlight and Jamelia all perform.
The event, set to take place on June 27th, will also involve African musicians like Johnny Clegg, Sipho Mabuse Loyiso, Kurt Darren and the Soweto Gospel Choir.
It is believed that actor Will Smith will host the concert, which aims to raise money for Mr Mandela's 46664 charity.
He explained: "You all know that I am supposed to be retired but my friends and the charitable organisations that bear my name want to use my 90th birthday year to raise funds to continue our work and so of course I want to help them."
