Our series of Q&As with DJs and artists performing in the skiddle.com tent at Wickerman Festival's Bass Camp continues. Today, we speak to The Organic DJs.
Since bursting on to the radar in 2007 - the Organic DJs have taken over dancefloors and arenas nationwide with appearances at Godskitchen, The Emporium, Gatecrasher, In Bed with Space, The Workhouse Festival and of course, The Wickerman Festival.
Give us your top three tunes of this Summer
1)Afrojack - Pacha on Acid (Original) [Size] - Unbelievable track! The build and drop make this the perfect festival ammunition. Works everywhere!
2)Daniel Pereaux - Remember Who You Are (Original) [Whartone] - Big release from Sonny Wharton's 'Whartone' imprint. It is from a breaking Swedish producer, Saxophone and Piano heaven with a 'must dance to this' feel about it. Great track!
3)Organic DJs - Superfly (Original) [Unsigned] - Our latest production has been getting some good reactions so far when we've played it! We like this... a lot!
What can we expect from your set at the Wickerman?
You can expect our usual four CDJ and two mixer antics, loads of samples, and some bouncy, techy house grooves with our own 'organic' twist. We have been keeping our heads down in the studio this year, so expect to hear lots of new original material also.
Describe your performance style - do you like to dance?
Oh yes! Not sure if you can call it dancing, but we like to dance and interact as much as possible to get people more involved. Performance wise, we are all about the groove and try to make our sets as energetic and varied as possible. The way we play across four CDJ's gives us so much more freedom to experiment and push the boundaries of a DJ set, and this always adds to the performance aspect of our sets.
Do you have any rituals before you go on stage?
Well it's not really before we go on, but we always have a pre-set hug as we start our set! A little bit of bromance won't hurt anyone!

Vinyl or CDJ, and why?
Vinyl is in the heart as it's where we learnt our trade, but we're on CDJs now as it's nice to embrace new technologies. The new CDJ2000s are ace! They have such a nice feel to them and make DJing even more of a pleasure. if anyone would like to donate four of them to us by the way, then we'd be more than happy to accept. Ha!
What's the best gig you've ever played and why?
Definitely closing the Wickerman Festival in the Skiddle Arena in 2008! The first hour of our set was unbelievable! We were playing our usual set up of four CDJs and two mixers, the crowd were bouncing around and were well up for it and then we were then joined by Whartone head honcho and Wickerman hero Sonny Wharton for the last part of our set. At this point, we had six CDJs, three mixers and two FX units on the go - it was absolute madness but at the same time brilliance! All three of us were on auto-pilot, we just clicked, the performance flowed, and the crowd got well involved. The closing hours were literally 2000+ people having what I can only describe as a rave! Absolutely amazing, and a moment that will stay with us forever.
Who's your all time favourite DJ?
ODJ Paul - I have a couple to be honest! Erick Morillo for everything he's done in the industry, his ability to give the crowd exactly what they want and the fact that he's still at the top of his game after so long doing it. And my second choice is the legend that is Mr Roger Sanchez! The man is seamless. His tribal groovy style with samples smashed all over it does it for me every time!!!
ODJ Owyn - For me, Judge Jules was a huge influence when I was younger. Not so much musically if I am honest but when I was 16, I was lucky enough to have warmed up for him at Golden in Stoke-on-Trent and he was such a top bloke, was so down to earth and gave me advice that I have never forgotten - he was a bit of an inspiration to be fair. He definitely bullied me for my closing track as well, but we enjoyed the banter!
Do you have any tattoos? If so, what are they?
ODJ Paul - Yeah, I have four at the moment but I will have five by the Wickerman this year! I have my name in Hieroglyphics on my arm, the Eye of Ra (for protection!) on my back and my new one will be a Nordic Viking design which is where some of my family's origins are from.
ODJ Owyn - Hahaha, well... I actually only have just the one. I thought, I will put it where it is because no one will ever know about it, but I suppose I should share it with the world! It is my university's football club logo on my left bum cheek! I went to DeMontfort University in Leicester and the tattoo has two stars underneath it to symbolise how many football tours we have been on together. Great memories to be fair, although when I had it done it was up there with the worst pains ever.
What's the most random thing a fan's ever said to you?
Hmm, not sure to be honest! We played the closing set at a Godskitchen NYE party once, and we were playing in replacement of Jeff Jeffreson, I can't remember why to be honest, but that night we got a lot of 'Jeff?! You look well different'! We also got asked to give someone 'mixing' lessons once during a set... not sure if they were being sarcastic or not though! Haha!
What are you most looking forward to about The Wickerman Festival?
Kutski's Rave Breaks set! If you've seen his YouTube Vids you'll see why this is going to be amazing. 808 State on the main stage as well, that is going to be absolutely unmissable in our opinion. But, the Skiddle Bus this year is definitely where it is at! I am told that it has been kitted out with a sound system and will be touring the site with a mobile rave.
Thanks guys! See you at The Wickerman festival!
