Former Sankeys owner set to open cafe-bar

30th Apr 2008

A new cafe bar is set to open in Manchester's Chorlton area.

While this is hardly a surprising event in the trendy area, Orlando's is already looking like it might be something special.

For one thing, the owner of the new premises is Rupert Campbell, former owner of Sankeys, and, in an interview with the Manchester Evening News, he revealed that he has been planning the bar for the last two years.

"The idea behind it was to create a jazz cafe type of place," he explained to the paper. "A place where you can sit down, eat and watch certain artists you wouldn't normally see in the suburbs - and this building's perfect for it.

"I know Chorlton like the back of my hand now, and even though there are lots of bars and restaurants, it hasn't really got anywhere you can go out with your kids."

To mark the opening on May 1st, Mr Campbell made use of his prestigious book of contacts and convinced Inspiral Carpets' frontman Tom Hingley to come down.

Later in the summer, the likes of Howard Marks and Felix Dexter are also set to appear.ADNFCR-1603-ID-18574084-ADNFCR
