112-116 Pricess Street - Bank Holiday Weekend
24th Apr 2008
A bank holiday weekend means that they can even
enjoy the relative luxury of leaving the Friday closed with a tri-ponged
assault occurring on the Thursday, Saturday and finally Sunday. Three evenings
means three club nights all lending their hand in support, with Belly of the
Beast celebrating their birthday, followed by Sequence and Scouse heavyweights
Circus representing their own individual musical sound on Sunday.
Belly of the Beast throw up a crunked-out manifesto
for their celebrations, enlisting Brazilian superstar Diplo as a headliner. The
MIA producer and B-More scene cohort is an enigma of modern music, blending the
samba touches and baille funk influences of his native Brazil alongside the
splattering funk of Baltimore’s Hip-Hop attitude, resplendent with a dash of
old school electro and funk fuelled techno. DMC turntablist A-Trak, whose genre
bending blends of hip-hop and the jittering Ed Banger sound have earmarked him
as a different breed of party DJ joins the Zombie Disco Squad and Metalink in
support, alongside a very special guest.
And then onto Saturday’s offering from sequence. Headlining
is the underground’s talisman Venetian Snares. The nom de plume for oddball
funkateer Aaron Funk, Venetian Snares remains one of the most prolific and
endearing producers of modern times, cannily creating smorgasbords of
electronic mind-fuckery with gracious excess. He’s joined by the UK’s king of
oddball electronic Luke Vibert, the Cornish impresario who’s at home crafting
off kilter covers of acid house classics as he is raiding the vaults of the
Biriths library music. Support comes in the shape of Mike Paradinas, Tim Exile, N>E>D, Ed
DMX, DJ Rephlex Records and Bogdan Racinski.
The
final party of the weekend sees Scouse mainstays Circus hopping down the M62.
The talismanic club night of Yousef has quickly become one of the leading
institutions for house and techno in its myriad of forms across the country,
this gig a further extension of that exceptional aural mandate. Naturally
Yousef is down for the ride, but also enlisting Swedish house mafia Sebastian Ingrosso
as part of his beats lynch mob, the Size Records man rapidly extending his
glittering reputation across the globe. Nottingham sensations The Streetlife
DJs, hot on the heels of their essential Mix of the year in 2007 and a prolific
array of club bookings, join Krysko and Stereo Slut in support.
