Here we go Magic and Sleepy Sun go on Tour!

11th Jun 2009

HERE WE GO MAGIC are currently playing gigs in the US with Grizzly Bear, who are big fans and personally chose them for the tour. The album is out here in the UK on the 29th June and causing some dispute in the office. Will think's it sounds like Popol Vuhl, whilst others can hear Paul Simon's 'Graceland'! The truth is probably somewhere between the two. Singer-songwriter Luke Temple ('one of the most beautiful voices in pop' Sufjan Stevens') is behind the project, but it's somewhat of a departure from his previous output with layered electronica, soundscapes and a bit experimental but with pop, folkish, Afrobeat and Kraut moments as well. Bella Union are big fans as well so there's another good sign and are hosting a couple of the London dates..

SLEEPY SUN have to be one of the best live bands we've seen for a while.
They smaked it at Primavera last weekend - out their heavy psych-rock on a warm evening with the sun just beginning to fall and the sea in the background was pretty much the perfect setting for them. Fear not though, you can all see them at Hoxton Bar & Kitchen as part of their first full UK tour. The complete run of dates is below and just arrived here in the office, finished copies of their acclaimed debut 'Embrace' (see below)...

"...suggesting kingship with both Canadian west-coasters Black Mountian and their country-gospel offshoot Pink Mountaintops, and the tripped out, prog-jazz pastoralism of Dungen. Cool cats, in other words" TIME OUT "the rumble of Grinderman, the freakiness of Amazing Baby and the psych hellishness of Black Mountain" NME "This lot flip between freakouts and desolation blues like a cross between Jefferson Airplane and Dead Meadow" UNCUT
