PINS are a Mancunian female quartet who are really starting to come of age, and blossom from their punk rooted nucleus musically. Rather than draw comparisons to other female collectives buzzing the scene, it's their zero fucks attitude, raw edged sound and on-stage presence that demands our immediate attention.

Our last run in with the foursome saw the band hook up with fellow Manchester duo Brown Brogues, where they delivered a steelier cover of 'Girls Just Want To Have Fun' which the crowd rapturously responded too. Faith stole the show that day, with the festival crowd planted firmly in the palm of her hands throughout.

You get the sense that their previous works 'LUVU4LYF' and their debut LP Girls Like Us have been leading up to this release, which will assuredly go far beyond both, adding the final piece to their fashionably clad aesthetic and innate ability to put on a show, teeing them up perfectly to take on the states later this year.

In anticipation of its Monday 8th June release on Bella Union, we hooked up with Faith and Lois to get their take on the album, and give you a feel for what's to come from Manchester's next guitar wielding ensemble ready to take on the world.

What does the album represent?

Faith: I feel like it’s our coming of age record, It touches on the transience of life, friendship and betrayal, learning life lessons and dealing with them; it’s a diary. I’m talking in riddles a little but the album deals with a lot of stuff that needed to be put to bed.

Where does it stand musically?

Lois: Gloom pop.

Faith: It’s not that gloomy! We’ve moved out of the post-punk box that everyone put us in when we released Girls Like Us. This record is prettier, more textural.

Pick out a lyric from the album?

Lois: well we kind of already chose 'Wild Nights' but If I had to pick another one, 'We want to get away from here, anywhere just to disappear, We're not trying to be brave, We don't want to be saved' from 'Young Girls' (above).  For me that's about adventure and fearlessness of youth, wanting to do it your own way and fuck the consequences.

Favourite song to perform?

Lois: Too Little Too Late, it builds from start to finish and we get to go crazy at the end.

Faith: Got It Bad, it’s really intimate and delicate, a totally change of pace for us.

Tell us something we wouldn't know about it?

Lois: We left 'Everyone Says' unmixed cos you can hear everything you need to already.

Nice one girls, we can't wait for the release!

PINS play at Standon Calling that takes place from Saturday 31st July - Sunday 2nd August.
