TICKETS 2008

It was on the local news today that they are going to make next years event advance tickets only. So no tickets on sale at the gate.

They said this was to try and stop the festival expanding too much and limiting tickets to 20,000.

There was a jump in attendance from 13,00 in 2006 to 18,500 this year.

Thoughts anyone.....

I think/hope making the tickets advance order & getting rid of day tickets entirely would go at least some way to putting the neds off attending.

I think this is a great wee idea , aslong , as us regular Wicker fest goers , dont loose out on their wee toppin weekend doon at dundrennan , i hope it doesnt come too the senario that i loss out on my weekend at wickerman , as the fest is gettin more known/heard of , and i think it will come too the fest being sold out within hours or days of the tickets going on sale !!!

Yeah getting rid of day tickets gets my vote - often the cause of a lot of bother at a numbr of fests. People are less likely to be arses if they are living with their fellow festivakl goers for several days - if they're only there for one night they can kick off and leave if there's any heat.

northern arrow - I think it'll be a while before WM sels out in 2 hours like Glasto - you should be OK for a few years yet!!

I totally see and actually, personally, agree with the argument for the day tickets to be done away with but I do know a lot of (decent) local folk who always head along on the Saturday and really look forward to doing that. Can't we just shoot the neds instead? ;0)

I think the day tickets should be done away with aswell, and how about setting up something whereby only local people can buy day tickets, from a local outlet providing they can prove their address?

If its Locals who want to go along on the saturday i cant see a problem with the organisers issuing them on the same basis as Glastonbury does Marsha. Id think it only fair that a sudsidised pass should be given to anyone living say within 5 - 10 miles of the site as a thankyou from the organisers and us for letting us invade and disrupt their lovely little area for a few days

All they would have to do is apply to the festival office or as someone suggests on here a local outlet for a "Local" one day ticket.Proof of address needed of course and these would be handed over and a different coloured wrist band from the weekend passes issued at the gate Simple as that.

Do you know whats going to happen? In the Wickermans so come, people like us will have great difficulty in purchasing a ticket because there is going to be this big mad rush. I mean lets hope this isnt the case but I cant help but think this.

Does anyone know would stopping day-only tickets would affect attendance? Is it that 90% of tickets sales go to weekend campers or 50% or what..?

If there were 18500 people there than it seems likely most were not camping as the fields are not that big, are they??

Yes it would be nice to always reduce lager louts etc. but does that mean there are none of these neds living locally? And where do you draw the line at "local" i.e. what if it's 10 miles and some family who've been for years can't come? Common sense needed and overall if you reduce the demand you reduce the supply - prevention is better than cure - so then can we think of ways to make Wickerman undesirable to the "undesirables" :o)

I do agree Wickerman 2008's not going to be the next festival to sell out within hours and then have thousands of tickets appear on ebay. I also agree keep to the size of bands we have now, not the size of bands headlining TITP, Reading/Leeds etc.

Some of the locals got in on Thursday night for a freebie.

There's no way it will sell out quickly! Tickets were available for months on end for this years Wickerman. If people cant get organised thats thier problem. Its not as if locals dont have every opportunity to buy them. Tix on sale in most local towns.

I agree that the best way to stop the neds is to book bands that wont appeal to them.
