Unsafe rides???

hey folks, we went to the site on the thursday and me and my partner went onthe bungee that day. now i love this ride, i went on it twice last year, but last yer they jammed the shoulder resraints down on me too tight, and i had very painful ribs for a few weeks.

now this year they ride oporator jammed the support down so tight i couldnt breath, n when i pointed this out he just laughed and shrugged, i ennded up swearing at him and calling him everything uder the sun and he eventualy loosened it 1 notch, comfortable then.

Also on the spinning thing, like giant waltzers, wehn we got off it, there was a loud hiss, and gas started to spray out of the hydraulics on the supports on our sets. the ride op got every1 off the ride staright away, uut the ride was running again in 15mins, jus with that set of 4seats closed.

personally i think it should have been closed

I don't know how many folks are aware of this but that bungee ride is banned from all EU countries other than Britain, as it doesn't conform to their safety standards.

The attitudes of those on the rides is often shameful & quite frankly(speaking as someone who's roots come from the fair) saddening~usually the folks putting people onto the rides are not showfolk themselves but just hired hands who just don't give a toss~this always reflects badly on the owners of the rides & I really do wish they'd be a bit more selective about those they employ!

As for the other ride running with some seats out of action~I don't really see the problem as each set of 4 seats will be worked off a seperate set of hydrolics.

A guy on Saturday morning got on the bungee...he too not secured/advised appropriatley....up it went & broke the poor guys leg and he was taken off in an ambulance....so thats at least 1 claim from public liability I witnessed at the festival.

I thought festivals were for listening to music and getting melted and meeting friends, not going on fairground rides?

or am I missing something?

i don't know if they are safe or not, i generally avoid things that make me dizzy at festivals, its just a fast track to an unpleasant and early night, but thoise they put out all night is worse then the dance tents, and closer to the camping. turn the off at 1 or 2, not 5.30.

Festivals are for all sorts of things to do, it's not just about the music.

Take Glastonbury for example

better still no fairground the hassle it attracts as well as blasting out annoying pop music all night. ORGANISERS NO NO NO ....

My mate fractured his leg on the bungee on the Friday - ended up having to leave the festival Saturday morning - all because he wasn't advised properly about securing his leg against the frame of the ride. The festival has a few lawsuits waiting in the wings I'm thinking....

Well good luck to those attempting to sue~however, the sign on the ride that states "Patrons ride at own risk"(or to that effect) is usually a bit of a get out clause for most things.

You can't get around failure to provide 'duty of care' no matter what you write on the ride. They have a duty of care to operate a safe ride for their patrons. If they write 'Patrons accept that they may be horrifically injured or die on this ride', this doesn't get them out of it.

Hi Beery~I'm not disagreeing with you~they really SHOULD be held accountable for any injuries sustained~patricularly when said injuries are the result of incompatent/negligent staff.

However, proving that the staff did not properly instruct the riders, as opposed to proper instructions being given & not adhered to by the rider is not going to be an easy thing to do.

Although accidents can happen it is upto the people that own the rides to ensure that all possible safety precautions are being taken & it really does annoy/sadden/bother me when this isn't happening(as would seem to have been the case on the bungee ride).

I agree with Paul that good festivals are about more than just the music~though it does seem to be rather a 'Scottish' thing(I'm thinking Wicker & T) to have a bit of a fairground at a festival~Glasto has plenty of 'other attractions' without having any fairground rides.

Glasto has a big wheel and legendary swingboats! Wink

However both are free....

The very same fair also tours motorbike rallies and was at the HiFi festival near Newcastle, last year.

There is obviously a demand for the show rides or it wouldn't be worth their while to return year after year.

The only good thing about that ride would be owning it- £30 quid every few minutes beats minimum wage , We had a pretty good view of it from our tent -and some peeps seemed to get really thrown about (made my fillings hurt just thinking about it!) set me wondering what happens when the riders are really different weights?
