![]() paulnroz Offline Points:57 Posts: 2 | Night Of The Living Ned... In the wake of comments posted on these boards concerning the scumbag activities of a minority element at this years Wickerman I tend to agree with the view that a good deal of the thieving on the camping field was carried out by organised gangs. One of such was camping next to where we and our kids were pitched ,up by the main entrance-We'd chosen this spot as it was close to the car park and we had camped here last year and found it to be fine. This year however proved to be very different-We were among the first people to pitch here on Thursday afternoon-shortly afterwards,a group of people, about twelve in all, pitched directly next to us and set about making the whole weekend an utter misery for us and everybody else camped around them-Later that night, one of the guys came sneaking into our tent ,I think he thought there was no-one around as the kids had gone to bed-he was surprised by my partner who was up at the tent with the kids-the guy on being spotted by her,ran away back to his mates and started being threatening and abusive-loads of verbal abuse and drunken screaming accompanied by fractured troglodytic drumming which carried on all night. This pattern of idiot behaviours went on all weekend and the atmosphere around this gaggle of morons was utterly threatening to say the least-every time we went off away from the tent they were using our gazebo as a toilet and throwing their rubbish over the windbreak. The following day,the same scroat and his mates set about intimidating my children and the kid in the tent next to us-ridiculing the kids for being vegetarian and trying to embarass them into eating meat that they were offering to them.It pisses me off to see supposedly grown adults getting their kicks from trying to intimidate a ten-year old girl.We later saw this same team wandering around the field late at night shining torches into peoples tents-so I would presume that they might have some involvement in the robberies that took place over the weekend. I reported this to security on the site but all we got was a very disinterested response. We got to the point where we felt like we couldnt leave our tent unattended with these clowns hanging around. Just wondering if anyone else here had problems with this particular crowd over the weekend?-tall guy with short blonde hair and a Bradford accent-the other people with him seemed to have scots accents and were a mixed group, male and female aged around 30-40s.Other than this,we had a great time and met some wonderful people!-hi to Hillary,Dawn and Tony if you're out there! |

I was at Wickerman last year, and the Ned factor was definitely worse this year. We were very lucky to have lovely neighbours all around us. It would be really sad to see the Wickerman go the way of Pee in the Dark and other festivals. All music lovers and good folk need to stand together and reject the invasion. As others have said, let's all make sure we get to know those around us next year. United we stand :) |

There was much drinking of bucky, popping of pills and shellsuit-wearing observed. Were we not told to keep quiet about this festival so that we could avoid this? Who told the neds? Didn't see too much trouble myself this year, but seriously thinking it might not be worth coming back if it is going the way of Ned Fest in Kinross (this was my 3rd year and I don't want it to be my last!!!). Does this mean security will have to be stepped up? |

Wickerman definitely doesn't need this kind of anti-social behaviour and it shouldn't be tolerated. But chins up, the vast majority of people who attend Wickerman are some of the loveliest and friendliest people ever, and it's a delight to be in such company!:sweet: |

No disrespect to anyone who might be offended by this comment but it is not directed at anyone.....however if the it wasnt for the psytrance tent the neds would have nothing to listen too apart from the CRAZY FROG ride. So that could solve a potentially fatal problem cos if they start increasing in numbers it will see the death of the wickerman...i cant see any other way of doing it. On the other hand the psytrance tent is keeping the neds in one area away from the rest of us who are just there to have a good old fashioned rave.... I didnt see any problems at all over the weekend, i do have some constructive critasism about how things could be done better just to tweek things a little but i have no bad things to say at all. |

![]() cazimodo Offline Points:5 Posts: 19 | Re: Night Of The Living Ned... Maybe there should be a Wickerman questionnaire that you have to fill in before you can purchase a ticket: * What is your name? * What is your favourite colour? * Do you know the Muffin Man? (who lives down the lane) * Describe the Pythagorean theorem that determines the height of an isosceles triangle [Kidding ;]. * Who is the current Prime Minister of the UK? Do you like him? * Who is the current Secretary-General of the United Nations? * If you were a fish. What fish would you be? :worried: * Buckfast is: a) a beer b) a wine c) poison d) made by monks with no conscience. e) All of the above * Complete this sentence. "I love the Wickerman Festival because..." a) I can camp out with my family, friends and children and experience a lovely weekend of music, laughter and love. b) I can shout loudly so that the whole campsite can hear me; pee on tents; puke where I want, intimidate folk and feel like a shell-suited god(des). ;) |

I didnt see any trouble at all. The DJs and the sets were of the highest order. I was at Creamfields 2 yrs ago and it was far more intimidating. This was one of the friendliest festivals I have attended. I will definetly be back. Thank you very much to all concerned for all the hard work. Much appreciated. ![]() |

I had the misfortune to be stuck on the "happy bus" from Glasgow on Thursday night with a bunch of neds and neddettes who seem to have great problem controlling their bladders as we had to stop three times to let them have a piss break. Maybe if they laid off the Buckfast for just an hour or two we could have put up our tents without the use of a torch. Had to sit and listen to their woeful patter for almost three hours as well. Some guy "The reggae tent is open tonight." Neddette "What kind of music does that play?" Couldn't make it up... |

![]() lil-r-r-h Offline Points:5 Posts: 3 | Re: Night Of The Living Ned... I have to say we actually felt embarrassed to be Scottish (that's a first) and we also felt that a lot of people were put off talking to us because of our accents as well, normally we would have had loads of people to chat with at an event like this, but the undesirable element seemed to alienate a social friendly interactive atmosphere. They made it so people kept to their own little groups and were wary of of talking to strangers, especially ones with a local accent, I felt like screaming "We're not all like that!" I have to say it was understandable; There were so many rude, offensive and discourteous idiots we didn't want to risk talking to any of them unnecessarily either, but it made it quite a solitary event for us, which I found unusual and quite unsettling. It's such a shame that this marred the event for so many people. My personal issue with them was I was accosted by a group of lads at the toilets who heckled and made lewd comments before trailing me back to my tent - I didn't feel comfortable walking around alone after that. I have no idea how you could stop this though, maybe get rid of the burger bars? cut off their food supply, veggie stuff only? I'm a big meat fan myself but I could happily munch chickpeas if it meant a ned free weekend ;) though I saw a fair few McCrap wrappers lying about so maybe that wouldn't work either. My partner pointed out the similarities to some of the full moon parties we were at in Goa that were spoiled by young lads with high spirits from the neighbouring state, feeling up the women and causing general havoc - The more mature locals were embarrassed and apologised profusely for their behaviour (I now know how bad they must have felt) so it's not a problem unique to Scotland - maybe just one unique to events that encourage free spirits? The projection globe was beautiful and a really well thought out concept that seemed to escape some (sheesh, they wanted to push it down the freaking hill!). We spent ages trying to work out how it was done and could have done with a wee plaque about it to see if we were right in our guess of the two poles being projectors with prefilmed content - or was it a live feed from the festival, filtered and tweaked before projection (we're sure we saw people shapes walking across it and that led us to doubt the pre-recorded idea) Daisy was interesting and informative - though I'm a bit gutted that we couldn't get through to follow the pipe all the way up to the dam, we did mean to go around into the back campsite and see if we could get in that way but never seemed to find the time ;) Of the tents, we found the reggae tent to be our highlight - some superb music was played and it was relatively ned free, which probably explains why we enjoyed it so much. The toilets were minging but cleaned with impressive regularity and they wouldn't put me off coming - though I feel holes in the ground would be easier to use without touching (especially for us girls, peeing while holding completely stationary at a 45 degree angle takes skill, precision and leg muscle) - could we not just have trenches like the olden days? Please, it would surely be better for the environment and if you made it compulsory for any able-bodied person to help with filling them in at the end, it might help with the first problem! LOL The litter: I was utterly shocked at the amount of litter, this is not a dig at the festival organisers because the clean up crews were fantastic and the number of bins could not be faulted - this is a dig at the dirty litter bugs, if you are reading this, shame on you. (though maybe a lot of it was down to the first problem I outlined?) The Wickerman itself was astounding, fantastic, amazing... the work and planning that must have gone into that is mind blowing. Beautiful work guys and a credit to anyone who worked on it. The ceremony surrounding the burning was artfully choreographed and the timing and implementation was perfect, couldn't have been improved upon for us. All-in-all the highlight of our weekend (and the atmospheric mists on Friday were a gift! The eerie sight of the Wickman looming out of them held us spellbound). The police and the security were great, no hassles from them and very friendly folk. I felt really sorry for all the officers dressed in black on Saturday and I hope they all got free ice-creams and drinks for keeping up(right!) under those conditions. We thankfully didn't have to make use of the medical facilities, but we saw lots of advice being dished out by friendly med staff doing their frequent rounds and felt confidant that we would receive excellent assistance should we require it. My final piece of feedback would be about all the add-ons to the ticket price. When I buy something I like to know the price and get annoyed if it keeps going up. I don't mind if it's more to start with I just feel that tacking on lots of small charges after the main one is a really shoddy business practise, very off-putting. So to finish off I'll say, sorry guys I don't think we'll be returning next year, the good bits were really good, but not enough to outweigh the bad for us. PS. How good were Eek-a-mouse and the Dangleberries?! Respect guys, I'd pay to see you again :D (and I hope your sites take online orders, if not give me a shout I might be able to help out ;)) |

The only thing I had noticed was the BMW that had a rock thrown through it's back windoe   :swear: As for the neds/rude boys/chavs etc etc i had no problems with any of them. In my experience if you talk to them in a way that lets them know you're not going to take any shite from them they get the idea. The dance tents were amazing for getting everyone going at night, main stage similarly for the day. Reggae tent was a brilliant place to chill out and relax out of the sun. I had such an amazing time, thanks to everyone involved, all the dj's the security and everyone else. :sweet: |

Also with T in the P selling out every year, and no glasto, I’m sure more numpties will be looking for somewhere for their annual outing. |

Do many people jump over the fence at the wickerman? |

I hope they dont have to go to work with a massive fence, it would block out the beautiful countryside, they could make it exclusive members only and you have to apply for your membership giving details as why you deserve a pass. those members get to go every year, but then if they want to increase in numbers then new members can be introduced...lol i am now verging on extreme.... |

Much thanks to the Votan and Refine tents, had a great time in each, only saw a few teenagers having a scuffle which security sorted. Personally I would say keep teenagers (say 12 to 16) out of the dance tents, if that would be possible to police. It was a bit freaky dancing like a loon with all these kids around the age of my son (13). Hope to come again!! |
