| Re: And the winner is!.............Originally posted by fartyfairy: It depends on what you are referring to. Too many, in a marketing sense, Scotlands Alternative Festival is the Alternative to T in the Park. If your talking about alternative music, then thats a pish 'genre' these days because the alternative, has very often become the main stream I am too hungover to type any more. |

| Re: And the winner is!............. I think when Sid created Wickerman (morning Sid), he had in mind a festival that like Rich points, would be an alternative to events such as T in the park. Nowt wrong with T btw. The Wickerman Festival was built on an alternative platform, if it helps to call it non-mainstream, fair enough, with the various artists coming from backgrounds that have, shall we say, nothing to do with X-Factor and the likes. Again, like Rich has pointed out, the alternative umbrella has become mainstream these days. But, that's only the case for the people that want it. We don't all read Dan Brown and we don't need to. If you want mainstream it's in front of you, if you want options you have to dig a little more. I wrote in a review for the Daily Record last year on the Wickerman that the clash of the musical clans and their egos were all welcomed with open arms. And it still holds true. It's all about choices, options, the alternative to what you'd maybe normally go and see. I know people that wont be leaving the Axis Sound System tent, the acoustic tent, Solus, Refine, but then I know people that will go from tent-to-tent and will enjoy the lot. I also know people that will find a spot by the main stages and become furniture. It's all good. At other fests, you can walk about the campsite, listening to the stereos, and you'll hear the usual stuff. You know at Download, every 3rd stereo will be playing either Tool, Metallica, or GnR. At Wickerman, you can wander around and you'll hear something different. It's all about colour. Flavour. Some of the surprises from last year include hearing The Fall, Derek & Clive, and Dub Side Of The Moon. Now...you wouldn't get that at V-Fest. I'll stop here. Need some coffee. If anyone wants to carry this one on, feel free. |

| Re: And the winner is!............. I for one, will no doubt be face down in the mud somewhere, amusing bodily functions drawn on me in sun tan lotion with my trousers round my ankles and a can of larger gently dribbling down my arse crack because my 'friends' decided it was the "best thing for me". The amount of festivals i have gone to and actually forgotton that there was music on. 3 nights camping at nearby brighouse bay costs fifty something quid. The festival costs the same, yet there is a massive choice of music new and old to check out as a bonus. Sorry, im rambling about nothing. Also. Go and see Goldblade. |

I am going based on the introduction on the website home-page and I'm very much looking forward. i will be one those that Chay mentions as going from tent to tent and may end up imitating Richskiddle (lying face down in the mud) by 10pm not really caring who is on the main stage. :-p |

| Re: And the winner is!............. I'll just be happy to see everyone enjoying the festival. For the first time ever i've witnessed first hand the work that goes into something like this, and lineup or no lineup i think the whole affair is done remarkably well. Im really looking forward going up there the weekend before the event and watching the final stages coming together. Granted, ill be really chuffed if our tents are packed and theres a feeling of 'we did this' in the air, so when it comes to 3am, the responsibility can be put to rest, i can open a can of heineken and go, now what about next year. Amen to the wickerman. |

| Re: And the winner is!............. I dont think you need to worry on that score Rich its more or less in the bag for you. As for next year, the group of 10 that make up our band of happy wanderers will all be hoping for tickets for glastonbury, ive always been lucky and managed to get tickets since it started to sell out, but we are all gonna give The Sunrise Celebration a go next year as well which means that half of june and probaly some of july (recovering) will be spent in sunny somerset so we will miss out wickerman in 2007. |

| Re: And the winner is!.............Originally posted by RichSkiddle: I have to agree - annoying 'pack your rotten tomatos' line-up pish aside Wickerman is tops. But when I looked at other small festival line-ups for summer 2006 I realised that there are tons of great UK acts that do lots of small festivals every year for not much cash (Eat Static, Nightmares on Wax, Dreadzone (get them back soon), Baghdaddies, Tarantism, etc. etc. etc.). All of which would be great additions to the current line-up. Will still be a cracking good time and no mistake but there aren't all that many acts on the main stages that float my boat (unlike last year). I may be proven wrong by a mind-blowing set by SAHB, The Alarm, New Model Army etc. but I'd be surprised. Looking forward to the Blockheads and System 7 big time tho... |

I have to agree - annoying 'pack your rotten tomatos' line-up pish aside Nooooo thats not a good idea, and joking aside you will always get some useless tosser who would actually do it .....use yer feet, go to one of the other areas.....like somerset:D , nah only kidding, but hopefully the powers that be are looking on, (in silence, in deafening silence) and can read between the lines or maybe just read the lines and either tell us to go f*** ourselves or accept that maybe, just maybe we have a valid point....aint democracy a wonderful thing! |

Yeah Credit where it is Due, I am dead excited about the Blockheads even if poor old Ian is sadly no longer with us, Pama International will also be getting an ear or two from us as well, but asides from that..Nope I'm not right arsed about the main stages this year.. More of the above, above please Yeah..or Fuck it ! go for broke and pack the stages with some more of that excellent Scottish ttalent from last Year.. Greenfinger was it ? and that Kind of 80's esqe Band with the women in was really great too :sat: |

| Re: And the winner is!............. I MUST hear "Poo Poo in the Prawns" at least once over the wickerman festival weekend.(im gonna put a disc together of all his stuff i loved)..i cry with laughter every time i hear it and its one of Mr Durys lasting legacys and considering the state of the planet now, its more poigniant than ever!..Back to the point, We will all have a cracking time, theres no reason not to, and any comments we make that seem to be knocking the festival are done because people care enough to make them...........a very good sign that in such a short period Wickerman already has a loyal and vocal following. |
