Family Parking

Last year we arrive dead early so we could get a good spec on the family area (2nd I think!). The staff on the gate were under the impression that we should have got a family parking permit and wouldn't let us onto the car park near that site. This would have meant us trailing tons of camping stuff and four small children miles.I'm not sure if we missed it but I can't remember seeing this information on any wickerman site.

As it happened one of the more reasonable stewards seeing our plight let us through (either that or the threat of leaving him to baby sit the kids whilst we took the gear over). There seemed t be alot of confusion.

Before we get there is there any need to sort out permits before the event or will we be ok to use the car parks we want?

Re: Family Parking

Hi Everyone

I have spoke to the festival office, here are the details.

There is no specific family camping or family parking. There is a quiet campsite which is suitable for families. To accompany this quiet campsite there is a car park with limited spaces.

To access this car park you need a pass which can be purchased on the gate for £5

I presume this is the car park you ended up in last year.

Just a reminder that camping and parking is included in the price of your ticket and the quiet parking is a value added service from the festival. You could always park for free in the main car park and use the sherpa service to move your gear.

Re: Family Parking

Whats the distance from the normal car park to normal camping area? Roughly (for a newbie) I don't need it to the nearest cm.

I assume you can go back and forth as much as you want.

Where do we park our llama?

Re: Family Parking

There adjoining fields so anything from 20m to 500. Depends on which side of the field you want to camp and who far away you car ends up.

Yes you can go back and forth.

Llama Wink No animals allowed at the festival

Re: Family Parking

Thanks Rich.

Re: the distance its worth planning for a bit of a treck but if you're getting there early you should be able to park pretty close. Just be aware that if you're planning on a quick getaway on Sunday you'll need to be up bright and breezy because you can get caught in a queue to the exit.

Re: Family Parking

The traffic leaving site last year seemed ok, we left around 11.30am with no problems.

Re: Family Parking

erm..if there is no family camping, how come there is a charge of 25 quid for a family camping ticket?

Re: Family Parking

£25 is if you're bringing a campervan. The charge is the same whether you'd like to park it in the general area (no tents) or family area (campervan + 1 tent)

If you're not bringing a campervan you don't need to pay £25!

If you want to camp in the quiet area there is no charge. The only charge is £5 if you want to park in the quiet camping car park

Hope that helps

Re: Family Parking

Sorry, I'm getting a bit confused with the whole family parking thing. I'm coming to the festival with two small children and want to park as close as possible to the tent. My friend is bringing her trailer tent so she's not able to park her car and carry her tent for obvious reasons. Does she therefore need a campervan pass and, if so, could I camp/park in that same area or would she be able to take her car into the quiet camping car park to park her trailer? Sorry if I sound like an idiot but we don't want to be separated or have any hassle at the gates.

Re: Family Parking

In this instance, she would need to get a family campervervan pass. You will then be allowed a trailer tent with a tent next to it.

You won't however be allowed to take your car into this area and will have to go in the general car park, as you don't have a campervan, caravan or trailer.

The quiet camping car park is an extra on the gate, and allows you to park near your tent in the quiet camping area (which is popular with families)

The normal campervan field does not allow any form of tent in the field apart from fixed awnings.

Whereas the family campervan field allows a small tent for people who are joining others, but is designed really for those who spend their childrens dinner money on a campervan and make the children sleep in a tent ;o)

Re: Family Parking

sorry to be dim/complicate things further but... I have VIP parking/camping passes and friends who I wish to camp with dont - how does this relate to the family/quite camping area? Are VIP and quiet/family one and the same, and if not, what do we need to do in order to camp together?

Re: Family Parking

Just camp together in the quiet/family area if that's where you both want to camp?

Re: Family Parking

No VIP camping? I thought there was, has this changed or am I just confused? And just so I'm entirely clear... even though I bought VIP tickets thinking that they entitled me and my wee ones top notch parking/camping (i.e. close together) facilities, this isn't the case and to access the campsite nearest the family/quite zone I need to pay an additional fiver...? Eh?

Re: Family Parking

I think that your VIP tix enable you to park in VIP/family parking without additional cost to you where as those who don't have VIP tix have to pay £5 to park there. Thats how I read it anyway but I'm sure the Skiddle boys will be along to confirm or refute this shortly!

If the campsite is layed out the same as last year then if I took advantage of this VIP parking then I'd be much further from my tent than I would be if in general parking!

I hate the whole VIP thing at festivals. Everyone attending should be treated the same. I only bought my VIPs for the flushing loos and sinks to wash hands.

Re: Family Parking

Firstly, nobody purchased a VIP ticket, it was a reward for being one of the first 500 tickets sold.

Just to clarify, there is no and has never been VIP camping.

VIP ticket holders have access to VIP parking, Dn'D toilets and showers, and the VIP Bar Area.

VIP parking is pretty much inbetween the quiet and general campsites, so depending on where you want to camp you can walk from there. The site isn't that big compared to some events, and the pathways are certainly some of the kindest on the feet!

If however, you want to camp even closer to the quiet camping area, then yes, you can pay £5 on the gate for a special car park which is next to the quiet camping area which nobody apart from the people who have paid a fiver to be in will be parking in. This is an optional upgrade and is available to anyone, whether they have a VIP ticket or not.

Re: Family Parking

What about VIP spanking?

How much is that and where is it?

If you don't pay your fiver will there be VIP clamping?
