This sniffer dug business is a DISASS. There wiz a story in oor local paper, the day, aboot a trainee doctor caught wi some ,so called, class As at last years Wickie. 15 eez an a bit a bla, perfectly reasonable fir a weekend personall, but these erses could av ruined that young persons life wi thon shite. 'ITS A FUKIN FESTIVAL 'as i once heard a young man retort when leaving his tented night accomodation, early one Wickeration morning.........Usual rules don't apply.....gies a break

| So does that mean that somebody that has dedicated their life to helping others is not allowed to have one weekend a year to relax and let their hair down and don't forget the two hippie chicks in the dance tent that were not so hippie police that were getting guys lifted by chatting them up | |

Sorry Ziggy I deleted my comment as it is a bit controversial and I don`t want a whole debate springing up, as people jump on my intolerant attitude

He's hardly a trainee doc......try consultant. If it had been any other NHS professional they would have lost their job in a shot. Up in front of GMC I believe because of the charges and also the query of where he procured the amphetamines from!

In a very simple answer, drugs are illegal. At the festival or anywhere else. I wouldn't like to be attended too by a doc on Monday or Tuesday who was coming down from his weekend, nor would it be acceptable say, for someone to drink drive cause they only do it one weekend a year. You can complain all you like about the sniffer dogs, and whether you think you should be allowed to take drugs, but your voice will go unheard, as nothing can be done about the police presence and legalities of this country, and the longer you remember that from last time we told you, the quicker you might be able to accept that fact.

| It's all just part of lifes rich tapestry. If Class A drugs are your thing then by all means, but just be prepared to accept the possible consequences of that decision. If that doctor wanted to do that then i have no problem but if he got caught, it's still his own fault, he could not possibly have been so ignorant of the law with tregards to this. like anything else that's worth doing, tere's always a risk and you must live with the consequences should that risk turn badly for you. | |

I know the drugs are illegal and can accept that. What's irritating is that as a use of police budget and resources, mounting a massive weekend long sniffer dog campaign seems very unnecessary. The cost to the local taxpayer will be huge yet it won't have any impact on their lives. The problems caused by drug use could be dealt with by a much smaller force leaving the Police Authority with more money and more man-hours to tackle the thing that matter much more than a load of stoners in a few fields. But they can't resist an easy pop at their targets and some nice PR for the headlines.

Rich - I don't think anyone was necessarily suggesting that the Skiddle chat-site could change the world (or even policing policy at Wickerman). But if nobody complained or protested about anything, we would never get any change. Remember this is supposed to be the "alternative" festival? I think the original comment from Patandpam related to the treatment being meted out to a reasonably young professional man who had been caught out enjoying a weekend very similar to many others, and who was all over the local press because there is not very much else goes on in this area, and there are plenty who like a chance to hold WM up as a den of vice and iniquity. This last is about the only good reason for trying to ensure the site remains as clean as a Rotary Dance. It is not unlikely that at some point you have been attended to by a doctor coming down off a weekend, though in most cases this would be a weekend on whisky, gin, possibly God, or in some cases (and more than you might think) the morphine from the dispensary.

LOLed at that... not a killjoy to the fun, but i suppose the bottom line is; if the local authorities wish to police/enforce -as has been already stated- illiegal doings, then it's not really the fault of the festival, your complaint is with the law itself, whether liked or not... try getting planning approval for a festival where, as an organiser, you stipulate that sniffer dogs aren't allowed on site, and see how quickly you get it rejected, however alternative you want to be... either way, the energy of the problem is better spent on having what fun is allowed to be had within the law... :-)
