Greetings from a newbie!

Hi all!

So, after becoming seriously hacked off with TITP and the people who attend it thinking it's jovial to set other peoples tents on fire (instead of an effigy of a man!). Being absolutely, pleasantly surprised and delighted with Benicassim (Spain) but too skint to go this year. Whilst leaving Organic Beats sratching my head and generally feeling dazed and confused...

My question to you all is what should I expect from the Wickerman festival?

- what is the best day/time to leave from Glasgow to get there with plenty of time to find a good spot for camping and generally kick back with a cider and chat to fellow festi-goers?

- How much money on average should we bring if we like a drink (but not to excess)?

- Your highlights of previous WM festivals

- Finally, the not-so-hot lowlights :)

Cheers in advance!

Right, where do we start. The Wickerman runs 24 hours a day, none of this 11.00pm everybody out nonsense or even worse 10.30pm (Loch Lomond). The people are generally very friendly and there is a real mix of all ages and lifestyles. Leave Glasgow on Thursday afternoonas the festival runs on Fri and Sat, not Sat and Sun as most of the others do, Sunday is merely a day for packing up and starting the long slog back home (I'm a Glaswegian). I've been every year since the festival started and I attend other festivals including TITP. There is nothing that comes close to the Wickerman - not in this country anyway. There is generally plenty of space to camp, you won't open your tent and find another 4 inches away from it in the morning (unless you askthem nicely). Drink - you are normally allowed to take you own drink into the festival site as long as it isn't in glass containers, all festivals should be like this, it's expensive enough trying to buy tickets never mind drink. Well, unless you're exceptionally rich like me.

Expect a laid back weekend with as varied a bunch of people as you're likely to meet and to miss half of the daytime acts due to partying INSIDE the festival site until the early hours. Don't expect The Killers or The Kooks!

The festival site is massive and there is plenty of space to get lost in, if you wish.

Highlights - far too many to list.

Lowlights - I can't really think of any apart from the weather! Possibly the fact that it gets a wee bit more popular each year and therefore a wee bit more commercial.

How much should you bring? - I'm not sure but bring an extra £2 with you and you can buy me a drink. Seriously though, you could probably turn up with a tenner and a dozen cans of beer and you would still love it down there.

Campsite opens 12 noon thursday, like people have said you will find a good spot pretty much all of the time, the campiste has good access lanes, good lighting and nearby toilets. I'd say at the furtherst away point its around 10 mins walk to the arena

The site is one of the most beautiful places in the country.I'll leave it at that.

Drink is reasonably priced, you can bring what you want into the campsite, it's not allowed into the arena im afraid but like i said its a short walk which will often do you good. Beer tent I think is around £2.60 a pint. It's maybe less/more, i actually dont really have time for the beer tent.

Highlights, there is a whole thread about it. Lowlights are down to personal opinion, the attitude and feeling of the festival is generally simply beautiful as far as i am concerned, yes I am involved with the running (sort of) but I work with what I love, and the festival I love. We try to address each issue as it happens, and I think we do rather well.
