WBTH? Catches up With GAZ Donning

26th Oct 2007

for those out there who don't know who you are? tell us a bit about yourself?

currently living in south manchester, i'm studying an fdsc in sound engineering. co founder, promoter and resident dj of manchester's method and fullstop a charity night based in south cumbria. i'm also a resident for majefa manchester, jigsaw manchester and underground djs south cumbria.

what 5 words best describe your style?

wonky, hypnotic, minimal, electronica & techno

you currently run your own night "method", what is it all about?

method is all about keeping manchester's underground alive. with a very intimate feel method provides a platform for up and coming djs to promote them selves.

a lot of nights in manchester rely on headline artists to attract clubbers, which in turn increases door charges. method is very proud to stand by its cheap door prices keeping the fun on the dance floor.

how do you feel about coming to play in lancaster?

actually i'm really excited about playing in lancaster, playing out side manchester gives me a real buzz. i love the feeling of not knowing what to expect and wondering how the crowd will react to my style. in a way it's a new challenge and really helps me to improve me performance.

what djs / producers are making an impact for you at the moment?

i'm really into iain taylor and the rejekts crew at the mo. some good solid productions coming from this manchester based team and the djs on board are really worth watching.

phil caine is defo one to look out for, his productions are going strong and his live sets get better every time. samuel from "we're not normal" in nottingham. i played along side samuel a few months back and he's a wicked dj. samuel will be making his manchester debut very soon for method. also artists such as claude von stroke, tiefschwarz, jamie jones, loco dice, oliver hain...... i could go on!

who or what influenced you to get involved in the industry?

people like eddie halliwell, alex kidd, fergie and james zabeila. they have this amazing ability to control a crowd and create so much energy behind the decks. and there skills never cease to amaze me. there are a lot of djs out there who seem to look bored behind the decks and coming from a clubbers point of view, djs are here to entertain, not just play tunes, people can do that at home. when i first started playing i regularly visited places like passion, goodgreef and promise. hard dance, trance and techno was my thing and the atmosphere at these places was simply amazing. sankeys and wax on are defo the culprits who turned my head more towards house and minimal.

what is the best venue you have ever played?

has to be stealth in nottingham. i played at we're not normal's second night. we played in the back room with nottingham's biggest breaks night headlining in the main room. playing on a function1 sound system, the back room was rammed, leaving around 20 people in the main room!!

have you ever the chance to play alongside any your heroes?

i've played along side lottie and will be playing with fergie on november the 3rd for fullstop a charity night based in barrow in furness. i've also played on the same bill as tiefschwarz and greg vickers.

what was the first club you ever went to? and who was playing?

ha... being from ulverston it was buffers!! but the first "real" club i went to was passion with fergie and jfk.

and finally, if you had to have sex with an animal which one would it be? and why? (only if you had to of course! we do not condone bestiality!)

for legal reasons due to a pending court case my solicitor has advised my not to answer this question!
