Why? Are you interested in becoming one like? I'm afraid I'm not the person to be asking about such things as I'm just a support worker.

I take it Statik didn't go so well then? Retro was a night fuelled by Paul Thomson and Neil's ability to talk to more people in a night then I talk to in a week. Two natural salesman that talk the gift of the gab, and put on a regular this is what you get night. Jacko was still popular, so he contributed to it's success in a bizarre way. People didn't go because of the DJ that was playing, they went because they knew what they were going to get month in month out. The same formula that still pops up everyone once in a while when retro returns. People won't of come to N-Joi because A) they wont of heard of them B) wont remember them C) wont want to pay to see them and D) for the last few events you have being describing your night as Strictly Underground, it will have got itself a reputation for playing Electro, Electronica, Minimal Techno, Old Skool, Prog House, Techno, Tribal House (your selection not mine) and then you go and put N-Joi on expecting the retro crowd to turn out. People don't like the word underground, especially not the retro crowd. And even if your event is underground you need to be very in your face with the promotion.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Paul had a following as a DJ in Carlisle since the early 90's? Retro was hardly a full house last Sunday, but Paul and Neil are always going to get their crowd who have followed them since the days House music was popular around here. Gaz, I feel for you I really do, as I've experienced that sinking feeling far too many times after putting a night on. There are two bank holidays in May, so doing something in between those times is a very risky business.

| Yes he has, and that ties in with what im saying. Paul/retro has been in Carlisle for many years. You know what i mean | |
| Posted 12th May 10:02am   [quote] | |
Yeah, I know what you're saying.
| Posted 12th May 10:34am   [quote] | |
you should of just set the fire alarms off. It's seriously good crack. oh and what would you do if Qa moved to Q8? I know what i'd do!
| Posted 12th May 02:21pm   [quote] | |
Retro WAS a full house. 220 paying, capacity of spirit is 220

gaz, I think you should do a few resident nights keep your costs down and try and get a regular crowd in over the summer and get acts again after the break, there is no point getting anyone in carlisle over the summer as there is to much on else where and including myself people leave the city for better things in the summer!!! invite other dj's from local nights where people know what to expect dont just have one style on as that broaden's your market too! but most of all dont give up like i say ride the storms these things take time!! peas

At the end of the day people in this city are obbessed with old skool i think, dont get me wrong i have all the old tunes and love them to bits . however as a DJ i class it as part of the job to break new music is a must to push the boundrys of dance music, all imm hearing these days is old skool is the way forward,i dont agree. I really thought having N-joi on would of pulled some of those retro heads in,which it didnt. Rich u said= describing your night as Strictly Underground, it will have got itself a reputation for playing Electro, Electronica, Minimal Techno, Old Skool, Prog House, Techno, Tribal House. Yes so isnt most of those types of mucic underground.coz its not comercial is it. we will do a ressi night wen the time is right.getting the djs we have been using costs us very little(apart from N-joi),its all about doing the right deal. Production setups is one of our aims to make statik stand out from the rest.aswell as the music.i would like to think the clubbers that do turn up go home having thought to themselves and say wow it looked and sounded good.

| Gaz it really pisses me off the effort you put into your night compared to the return. What you say about the music is real not pushing commercial styles and keeping it open minded is the policy and you should be having at least some success. You've had good crowds before, I've heard but what is failing you is consistency. I don't usually speak unless I'm spoken to but my conscience won't let me. You need to move the venue. If people won't come to you, you have to go to them. If you want to stay in Carlisle it has to be either Concrete or Mood. If you want to go for crowds then do Fusion. I recommend the latter and stand up to it any test. Sorry for being direct but take it on well. LFD. | |

Perhaps it was through the doors, but that doesn't mean that 220 people stayed all night.

| I think the venue is just fine. Build it and they will come. But really hammer home the promotion, and spend as much as you can on building the night before spending money on guests. UBER did superbly well, but it was an extra special night in an already established venue. And that's no offence to the UBER boys, they know what I mean. Spirit is just fine for a party. I might even have one there myself. | |
