We really cant quite believe that its 23 years since this whole thing started. Its now quite a bit bigger and longer, and theres loads more going on, but we always work really hard to make sure that the original Larmer Tree atmosphere is never lost.

Weve always been totally independent and sponsor-free, so with no outside forces to influence us weve been free to develop an intimate and extraordinary event of entirely our own creation. We have been joined by a truly amazing team over the years and could not and would not want to do it without them! Our links with local organisations as well as hundreds of volunteers from the local area help us maintain the festivals original roots and community spirit.

In the last couple of years we are really proud to have been awarded the UK Festival Awards for Best Family Festival and Best Toilets by festival-goers and every year we are even more determined to continue our quest to give ourselves the accolade of The Best Larmer Tree Ever award!

Visitors can expect not only to see an array of great musical talent from the UK and around the world but they can take their pick from comedy, workshops and theatre. With all of this on offer there is no way you will ever get bored at Larmer Tree!

History of Larmer Tree Festival

The first baby Larmer Tree was born on a really beautiful sunny Saturday in July 1990. Dick Heckstall-Smith headlined a bill of just six bands, it ran from midday ?till midnight and an audience of 150 turned up. The Gardens weren?t open to the public in those days and were a little on the wild side, but everyone loved the day and said ?you really must do this again?. Apart from taking a year off in 1992, the festival has run annually in July ever since.
