Music Barn Festival

About Music Barn Festival

The Music Barn Festival started with a group of friends putting on a party in some old barns to raise money for local charity. Charitable donation is still at the heart of their organisation and they donate to a range of local charities via the profit from the bar sales (so give generously!)

The festival takes place in a truly unique setting – a disused iron quarry. Nature has largely taken back what she lost during excavations, leaving a natural amphitheatre. This hidden valley creates a mystical setting for an intimate party festival.

The festival celebrates music across a broad spectrum, featuring established acts rubbing shoulders with unsigned bands. At the event, you could hear a great Ska band or an up-and-coming folk singer, an Old Skool hip hop DJ or get sweaty in the dance stage with some upfront house music.

This year headlining the Main Stage on Saturday are The Hoosiers the indie pop group famed for songs such as Worried About Ray, Goodbye Mr A, Cops & Robbers and A Sadness Runs Through Him. While Friday we welcome Sleeper, the indie rock outfit who boast eight Top 40 hit singles and three UK Top 10 albums during the 1990s.

In the Slade dance tent we have legendary Ibiza DJ Lottie and Seb Fontaine. While the Forge Space returns with a more downtempo vibe on Friday with Mark Morriss (The Bluetones) and Nigel Clark (Dodgy) headlining with support from The Ouse Valley Singles Club. Saturday night sees The Electric Forge space host Shaka Loves You, Madame Electrifie and The Scribes.

Tickets for Trees initiative. In 2020 the organisers planted a tree for every ticket that was bought in 2019, which offset their annual carbon output. Although they are a small event with a relatively small impact on the global climate, they still want to do their bit. In 2021 they will repeat the process and so they hope to be to have a positive impact on the local and global environment.

Reusable cup scheme. In 2018 the organisers introduced a reusable cup scheme which drastically reduced the amount of single use plastic cups they are sending to landfill. Guests buy one of the Music Barn reusable cups at the start of the event and return to the bar or drinking water station to fill up throughout the event. At the end of the event, guests could then keep the cups (for the next event) or put them in one of the recycling points. The scheme will continue in 2021.

Drinking Water. The festival is striving to reduce its single-use plastics. One of the biggest users of plastic bottles is spring water suppliers. To this end, they have installed a drinking water standpipe in the meadow. It is clearly signposted and free to use.

Music genres: Rock, Ska, Hip Hop, House, Folk
