Skiddle.com is a carbon neutral website

As part of our commitment to reducing our impact upon the environment, Skiddle have offset the CO2 generated from our web servers each year.

Skiddle operate 4 dedicated web servers, which emit approx 0.6 tonnes of CO2 each per year. Ideally we'd like to reduce this initial carbon footprint, however we're currently limited by available technology and our suppliers.

The next best alternative is to offset emissions which cannot easily be reduced. By investing in a carbon offset program, we aim to remove the equivalent volume of CO2 from the atmosphere, resulting in carbon neutral hosting

Skiddle have offset 4 tonnes of CO2 this year by investing in Morgan Stanley Climate Care projects. These include:

Mulan Wind Farm

Emission reductions are made on the Mulan Wind Farm by reducing the amount of electricity that would have been generated by conventional fossil fuels such as coal or gas. The project creates local employment, stimulating the wind power industry in China and reducing the pollutants such as SO2 produced by coal-fired power plants.

Ugandan Stoves

The Uganda Stoves Project supplies efficient wood burning stoves to families in Uganda. Families using less fuel wood benefit from increased income and improved health through reduced kitchen smoke. In addition to emissions savings from a reduction in fuel wood, there is reduced deforestation in areas affected by the Kampala market in Uganda.

You can find more details about the Carbon Offset projects at the Climate Care website.

Skiddle will be working hard over the next few months to offset all our CO2 emissions as a company, with the aim of becoming the first carbon neutral What's On Guide and Ticket Agent in the UK.
