Manchester New Year's Eve guide
New Years Eve in Manchester is one of the biggest on the events calendar, as the city that has something for everyone all year round, really goes to town to see in the New Year. The streets come alive with people looking to celebrate all things new, as Piccadilly Gardens becomes the unofficial outdoor party spot, with all the bars and clubs pulling out the stops to keep you smiling.
Underground Clubs with Sankeys and Warehouse Project
For those of you that want to keep it underground this New Years Eve, Sankeys and Spektrum will be joining together for a Circo Loco celebration. Clown fancy dress is optional, but reccomended, you can head down to Ancoats for an all night party of epic proportions with one party spread across two clubs. Lineup details to be announced, but we presume Locodice and the gang will be in town to bring in the New Year.
Talking of epic parties, it would be daft not to mention the New Years Eve and indeed New Years Day at the Warehouse Project. Your final chance to party in the Store Street venue as WHP moves pastures new in 2009. To say goodbye, they have none the less than Mylo, The Japanese Popstars, Dubfire, Claude Von Stroke, Yousef and Riton spread across the two nights.
Soul and Disco NYE with Funkademia
If a big club event isn't your thing, then Funkademia at One Central Street offers a more intimate mix of funky disco soul to shake your thang to. This is classic partying at it's best, feel good and feel the music. That kind of thing.
Bars in Manchester for New Year's Eve
As cities go, Manchester aint half a bad one, with the people at the top allowing some pretty crazy things to happen. My current offering is the North Pole Bar, which popped up this weekend next to the Urbis. Think huge tent, with artic bar, food service and a forest of Christmas Trees. It's a family friendly attraction during the day before coming pre party venue at night, which no doubt will make for some quality banter on New Years Eve.
Supersocial
A short journey from Manchester brings you to to grand surroundings of the Dunkenhalgh hotel, which plays host to Supersocial, a four room affair to suit everyones appetites. What makes it simply brilliant is the ability to stay at the hotel, which means you can pop back to your room for a drink, or indeed some va va voom if the moment takes you. Unfortunately the party is in massive demand, so you need to know someone who knows someone to get tickets. Don't be afraid to ask around though, there is plenty of time yet.
Deansgate Locks
Not planning on staying out all night this New Years Eve in Manchester? There's an abundance of bars to visit, whether you head down to Deansgate Locks and hop between Revolution, Baa Bar and the Sugar lounge or attend the more kitsch Northern Quarter and visit Manchester's famous Night & Day Bar or the Deaf Institute.
Canal Street
Finally one of the happiest places to be to see in 2009 has to be Canal Street. That's right, Manchester's gay village has an abundence of events on offer every night of the week, with NYE being no exception. Fancy something different, then look no further. You might just come home a changed person.
