Biography

Robert Swire Thompson to give him is full name, is perhaps most well known and loved for his work as founder, co-writer and lead singer for Australian's biggest drum 'n' bass export - Pendulum. From an early age in Swanbourne, Western Australia, Rob began writing music with Gareth McGrillen, the two of whom would later go on to form Knife Party as well as Pendulum itself.

Whilst Rob mostly worked as a producer for several local drum 'n' bass, metal and breakbeat bands, he also set about releasing his own material on former hardcore label Hardline Rekordingz. In 2002 Pendulum were formed, with Rob being joined by Gareth McGrillen and DJ Paul Harding. The band then relocated to the UK the year after and soon enjoyed underground success with releases 'Vault' and 'Trail Of Sevens'. In 2005, after two long years of writing by Swire and McGrillen, Pendulum's debut album 'Hold Your Colour' was released with significant underground approval. Live performances followed in 2006, with Swire set up as the band's lead singer. Following albums 'In Silico' and 'Immersion' met with critical and commercial success, with 'Immersion' getting the number one slot on the UK album chart.

Pendulum sadly split in June 2012, with focus moving exclusively onto Swire and McGrillen's Knife Party, which had by then taken the dance music world by storm. A hugely successful collaboration with Swedish House Mafia kickstarted the Knife Party phenomenon as they went on to release three iconic EPs '100% No Modern Talking', 'Rage Valley' and 'Haunted House', as well as headline just about every major dance nmusic fedstival in the UK.

Rob's work as a producer and writer has seen him work in demand from artists like Rihanna, Deadmau5, DJ Fresh, Chase & Status, Plan B and Taio Cruz amongst others. 2013 saw Rob Swire win the Ambassador of Bass Music award at the Bass Music Awards, yet another accolade in his outstanding career.
